Last night’s paid-for interview with Schapelle Corby’s cell mate Renae Lawrence provided Ten with a viewer boost somewhat comparable to Seven’s pricey exclusive with Corby herself.

The interview first aired on Ten Eyewitness News at 5pm, with ratings reaching 768,000 viewers compared to 661,000 last Monday.

Cell-mate Renae Lawrence said Corby spilled some undesirable secrets during their prison sentence, including a faked mental illness to get a shorter sentence.

Schappelle Corby’s family have outright denied the incriminating allegations.

Ms Lawrence also accused Corby of previous successful drug-runs prior to her bust in 2014, “she told me and the other prisoner that she’d done it more than…this time. She’d got away with it before."

Ms Lawrence contends that Ms Corby was scared of losing support from the Australian public if she changed her plea, “if she changed her mind, she was scared she would lose all the…Australian support."

Seven’s ‘interview’ with the convicted drug smuggler attracted a huge amount of attention with reports the network paid up to $2m for an interview with Corby, leading to a raid of Seven’s office and that of its lawyer’s by the Australian Federal Police.

The latest spike in Ten’s audience share suggests the Australian public are still relatively interested in the ongoing Corby saga.
