Viewers stay glued to news

News dominated televisions across the country last night as the week’s big stories keep audiences engaged.

The absence of entertainment stars The Voice and My Kitchen Rules saw news programs dominate the top three.

Nine News won the title of number one in Thursday’s ratings with an audience of 1.22 million, according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings.

Seven News came second with 1.15 million and ABC News sat in third with 1.061 million.

Mrs. Brown’s Boys came fourth with an audience of 993,000 on Seven while Border Security: International had 945,000 viewers and Home and Away had 905,000.

ABC had two others in the top 10 with The Checkout in ninth with 822,000 and ABC News Update with 815,000.

Ten’s best performing show was Ten News at Five with 619,000 viewers and Law & Order: SVU won an audience of 591,000.

Seven narrowly won the night with a 21.8% of all free-to-air viewers. Nine was right behind with 20.4%.

ABC took 14.4%, Ten had 13% and SBS claimed 5.2%.
