2DayFM Will Broadcast A Three Hour Mental Health Awareness Show

Tonight from 7-10pm, SCA Hit Network will broadcast a three hour show Press Pause to raise awareness for mental health throughout Australia.

Mental Health Ambassadors, Jules Lund and Bianca Dye, will host the Press Pause conversation, spreading awareness to a target audience of under 30’s, across The Hit Network’s 42 stations. The show will be commercial free, with airtime being donated to raising awareness for the following worthy organisations – Lifeline, Kids Helpline, Beyond Blue, Headspace, The Reach Foundation, Reachout.com and Batyr.

Press Pause is one of the agreements handed down by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) in July after the network’s controversial royal prank. As part of the agreement with ACMA, the SCA was told to air a three hour special program to promote media ethics and raise awareness of the risk of bullying, depression and anxiety.

Back in 2012, SCA aired a prank call in which two hosts, Mel Greig and Michael ‘MC’ Christian, pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles in order to be put through to the ward of the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge. The British nurse who took the call, Jacintha Saldanha, later ended her own life.

A number of stars, including Demi Lovato, Hugh Jackman, Ricky Martin, TV host Osher Gunsberg , models Ashley Hart and Nick Bracks, performers Olly Murrs, Troy Sivan and Anja Nissen, and journalist Mia Freedman, will lend their voices of support as will Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley.

Mental health ambassador Lund said: “There’s something incredibly liberating hearing your favourite stars admit they struggle at times. It’s simple yet powerful. I am honoured to bring these messages to our listeners, and ask them to join us for #presspause.”

Lund and Dye will also speak with experts in mental health including Batyr founder, Sebastian Robertson, Mental Health Australia’s Chris Wagner and REACH Foundation’s CEO Trish Squires. Adding to this conversation is The Ethics.
