The station said the name change is to celebrate Sydney’s annual Mardi Gras, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and to support marriage equality.

“2DayFm are strong believers of marriage equality and the station hopes to make a difference in Australia, big or small,” a statement read.

All on-air promotions, presenters and the stations’ website will be called 2gay for the day.

Earlier this week 2Day personalities and on-air announcers filmed a video message featuring Macklemore and hit song ‘Same Love’.

Fifi Box and co-host Jules Lund were joined by breakfast team Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O in the video.

Angus O’Loughlin, day time announcers Ellie Mobbs, Dan ‘Mandy Cassin’ and newsreader Geoff Field also took part.
