938,000 Tune-In For Olympic Opening Ceremony (But Seven’s Coverage Panned)

Some 938,000 Australians tuned-in to watch the opening of the Winter Olympics on Friday night according to OzTam numbers.

Opening ceremonies tend to be a visual feast for viewers and PyeongChang’s efforts were no exception replete with all the usual lasers, dancers, fireworks and always dramatic torch lighting.

However, viewers weren’t thrilled by Seven’s commentators constant chat throughout the coverage and cutting to ad breaks at pivotal stages.

Seven’s Edwina Bartholomew and Basil Zempilas led the proceedings and, to their credit, appeared to have a good knowledge of the different competing nation’s athletes.

Yet, it was the duo’s unnecessary talk during the entertainment that sent many into a social media rage.
