filmmaker Quentin Tarantino this week found a new reason to love Victoria Bitter after the beer brand supplied him with a heap of personalised cans of the bitter ale.
Tarantino was in Australia and in partnership with People’s Republic of Movies, a virtual nation-state of artists and idealists, where he was going to show-off a couple of his favourite Aussie films. The People’s Republic of Movies knew of Tarantino’s love of VB so got in touch to see if the company wanted to do something.
It wasn’t a pre-planned thing, said Richard Scott, head of brands at Victoria Bitter.
“They knew that he loved Victoria Bitter so they got in touch and asked us if we’d like to be involved, and we said yes – of course!” he said.
“From there, we went away and though about how we could make our involvement that extra bit special, and that’s how we came up with creating the personalised cans with his name on them.
“While we think that Quentin’s perfect for the brand, it wasn’t something that was pre-conceived or developed in partnership – we’re fortunate enough to have found someone incredible like Quentin who loves our beer and we seized the opportunity.”
The media coverage and social media engagement has Scott and the VB team pretty chuffed.
“We’ve had some amazing media coverage since the presentation and we have seen a lot of engagement on social media fans loving the fact that an icon such as Quentin Tarantino loves our Australian beer, so it’s been a great piece in that it’s really rallied people behind the beer and engaged a wider audience.”
The brand is not the first beverage company to create personalised bottles or cans, and when asked whether there’s any plans for a future personalisation branding, Scott said: “Not at this stage, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
