The Australian set to relaunch iPad app

Update: The Australian newspaper is expected to relaunch its iPad app in the coming weeks.

The refreshed will create an additional digital touch-point for the weekend edition of the paper's magazine insert The Weekend Australian Magazine. The Weekend Australian Magazine will be pointed to separately in the new iPad app.

At a breakfast held in Sydney this morning Nicholas Gray, CEO of The Australian, made the announcement.

“We’re launching a new ipad app focused on editions which is the best embodiment, we believe, of newspaper in a digital form,” said Gray.

While The Australian Newspaper this year celebrates its 50th birthday, The Weekend Australian Magazine turns 25.

An above the line advertising campaign around the app launch is expected in the coming weeks featuring talent from the titles' stable of writers.

Author Nikki Gemmell is the flagship columnist for the title which also features Glynis Traill-Nash, fashion editor of The Australian, and restaurant critic John Lethlean.
