Was Ten’s KFC Stunt A Make-Good After Commentators Spotted Eating Red Rooster?

On Tuesday night, viewers of Ten’s Big Bash tournament were treated to the odd spectacle of its commentary team tucking into a bucket of KFC’s tasty Popcorn Chicken, apparently unaware the cameras were still rolling. Check out B&T’s initial reporting of the incident here.

Many were left asking, was it a genuine gaffe or a blatant plug for the tournament’s chief sponsor?

Now some wags are suggesting the stunt was indeed a set-up or, more to the point, a make-good by network chiefs after one of the Big Bash commentary team was filmed a week earlier tucking into arch-rival fast food brand and tournament non-sponsor Red Rooster while the cameras rolled!

At the Melbourne Stars/Brisbane Heat game at the MCG in Melbourne on the 2nd of January, ex-England star Graeme Swann was seen eating a large box of Red Rooster fries while commentating on the game. Red Rooster is often available at many Australian sporting arenas, however, has no official affiliation with the Big Bash series.

B&T has contacted Ten for comment, however had not received a reply at the time of publication. For its part, Red Rooster revelled in the free promotion and upping its bitter rival KFC. It even used its social media page to offer other members of the commentary team a complimentary Red Rooster feed. It’s not clear if anyone took up the offer, however.
