A global live brand storytelling agency with headquarters in Sydney has been a part of history in launching the new Atlantis Sanya, the first Atlantis resort in China.

Held on Saturday 28 April, Atlantis Sanya hosted over 600 VIP attendees from China and around the world, where guests experienced an exclusive one-night-only original piece of themed musical theatre, written and produced specifically for the resort’s launch, by INVNT chief creative officer Paul Blurton.

The story centred on two young lovers who were swept into the ocean, rescued by magical sea creatures, and taken to the amazing underwater city of Atlantis.

There, they meet Queen Atlantia – played by Prinnie Stevens – who blesses them and sends her message of love, peace and unity to the land for the crescendo moment of Atlantis Rising.

Blurton said the grand opening of Atlantis Sanya demanded nothing less than spectacular for its world-wide debut.

“We wanted to take the art of live brand storytelling to new heights of engagement and emotion. We crafted an original narrative, recontextualising the ancient myth of Atlantis for the contemporary Chinese setting,” he said.

“Viewed through the lens of Chinese myths and taking inspiration from the resorts breathtaking South China Sea destination, we united the oceanic fantasies of East and West for an unforgettable evening full of international splendour, exhilaration and discovery.

“The five-act performance was brought to life through the use of a dramatic original score, live instrumentation, bespoke lighting design, choreographed performance by a cast over 40, blending the urgency and physicality of dance with custom-designed costumes, life-sized puppets and state-of-the-art theatrical technology.”

Laura Roberts, managing director of INVNT for the Asia-Pacific region, believes the success of the Atlantis Sanya launch is a result of INVNT’s unparalleled global reach and proven methodology INVNTion, which allows the agency to conceptualise, design and produce highly customized events regardless of the country, language, venue, or target audience.

“From the creative concept and design phase, to stakeholder management, production and logistics, INVNT’s full-service approach ensured a seamless and integrated activation for the Atlantis Sanya grand opening and the hotel’s first China debut,” she said.

“It is also INVNT’s global network that allowed us to bring together a bespoke team of creative INVNTrs from Australia, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York City to develop and deliver what was an unprecedented interpretation of the Atlantis Sanya brand.”
