Southern Cross Austereo Moves Into Voice Assistant Market With Google Partnership

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has announced that its Hit Network and Triple M news and sports briefings are now available on the Google Assistant suite of connected speaker products, including the Google Home.

Using a simple voice command, listeners can now hear news and sport briefings from Triple M, and news and entertainment from the Hit Network, on demand.

Each briefing is updated several times a day and is spoken by SCA journalists, as opposed to written text converted to speech by Google.

SCA has secured a commercial partner for their news briefings on the Google Home, making them the first Australian media company to commercialise content specifically on a voice platform.

Guy Dobson, chief creative officer at SCA, said: “With Amazon and Apple soon to join Google in the voice assistant market in Australia, it’s important we make sure Hit Network and Triple M content is easily accessible to this growing market.

“We’re very proud of the quality of the news our teams are creating, and we’re always looking at innovative ways we can deliver our content to listeners, no matter which device or platform they use.”
