McGrath Foundation To Spread The ‘Lurve’ at Splendour In The Grass

Recent research by the McGrath Foundation revealed that while seven in 10 young Australian women consider themselves ‘breast aware’, only half of these are conducting breast checks once a month.

With that in mind, ‘Curvey’ – a gorgeous pink retro caravan that physically embodies the McGrath Foundation’s education initiative Curve Lurve – along with her hoola-hooping 1950s-style “Evas”, will be at Splendour in the Grass spreading the breast health awareness message to the music-loving masses.

Rolling towards North Byron Parklands and setting up camp for three vibrant days at Splendour will see the Evas involving festival-goers in nail art, hula hooping and pulling a cheeky pose in front of paparazzi, all while encouraging young people to care for their bodies and take action towards a healthful lifestyle.

Whether you’re visiting Splendour in the Grass or not, to ensure everyone is taking care of their pair, the McGrath Foundation is asking the nation to download its Curve Lurve breast awareness App and memorise its simple approach to monthly breast checking: ‘Look, Lurve, Learn’.

  1. Look– at the shape and appearance of your breasts and nipples in the mirror with your hands by your sides. Raise your arms above your head and have another look.
  2. Lurve– your pair. Feel all of your breasts and nipples looking for anything that isn’t normal for you. Feel from your collarbone to below the bra-line and under your armpit too.
  3. Learn – what is normal for you! Breasts come in all different shapes and sizes, so get to know your normal. See your Doctor if you notice any changes.

Local McGrath Breast Care Nurse Karen Hennings is encouraging the local community to embrace the breast awareness message and embody the motto – “If you grow them, know them!”

“The McGrath Foundation is fantastic in the way they support Australian families experiencing breast cancer through placing McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across the nation. But to have that coupled with this fun and informative breast awareness initiative is amazing”, said Karen.

The Curve Lurve program was inspired by Jane McGrath herself, who was diagnosed with breast cancer aged just 31 and was passionate about breast awareness and education for all young people in Australia. To achieve Jane’s dream, the McGrath Foundation have introduced the Curve Lurve App for both Android and iPhone. The App helps women ‘lurve’ their curves by encouraging regular breast awareness sessions and providing relevant information in a fun, interactive and cheeky way.
