H&M Racist “Monkey” Hoodies Now Selling For $2500 On eBay

H&M’s now infamous “coolest monkey in the jungle” kid’s hoodie is now selling on eBay for a reported $2500 following its global notoriety.

Last week the budget fashion chain made world headlines when it showed a young lad of African origins modelling the jumper in an online campaign for its UK outlets.

There was universal horror due to the racist connotations of dark-skinned people being likened to a monkey. H&M stores were subsequently trashed and celebrity endorsers (including The Weeknd) were quick to quit their relationships with the company.

H&M pulled both the offending ad and the hoodie itself, however, those customers who did manage to snare one are taking advantage of the garment’s fame.

In the UK, one of the hoodies was on sale for a staggering €1,600 or about $A2500. However, eBay itself was worried it too would be associated with racism and has apparently pulled the post down. That’s not stopped a lot of other retailers jumping on the bandwagon and re-printing the slogan on their own garments.

An eBay spokesperson said: “We took a decision to ban these items when this story was originally reported and will continue to remove items listed maliciously.”
