New leadership team for SA’s PRIA

The South Australian division of PRIA (Public Relations Institute of Australia) has elected a new management team following recent changes in the Sydney office.

Leila Henderson has been appointed as the new state president and Cait Tynan has been elected as SA’s appointee to the national PRIA Board, following reports from Crikey board members from South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales have resigned.

Following the election of president, Mike Watson, reports have filed in regarding fighting and mass resignations, however PRIA insists it’s “business as usual”.

According to the statement released last week, Mike Watson was elected to help support a number of state divisions to appoint new state representatives to the national board.

Henderson is currently the CEO of technology company Newsmaker and has formerly worked in journalism.

“Traditional forms of communication are giving way to new technologies, and we are seeing more people enter the PR industry from a variety of backgrounds,” Henderson said.

“Practitioners want to be connected to a wider PR community to stay in touch with new trends and for professional support. PRIA is at the centre of this energy, and I look forward to engaging with our members to find out how PRIA can best help them.”

Jeffrey Naqvi, PRIA’s global representative on the Swiss-based global alliance for PR and communications management, added: “Economic, social and technological changes run frequently and swiftly through our industry, and this gives us a unique opportunity to review, refresh, and redefine exactly what it is we do.

“The team we have put together in SA is testament not only to the calibre of people we have in our State, but to the true diversity of the PR industry today.”
