Snack food brand Kraft Foods has announced its rebranding to Mondelēz International. The company which has lines such as Vegemite, Oreo and Cadbury, had reportedly been considering the name change since May while waiting for shareholders to vote at the annual meeting.
The new name caused a stir last year when it was found its pronunciation (mohn-dah-leez) sounds like the Russian word for oral sex.
When asked by B&T whether the name change would also see a change to the brand’s creative, corporate affairs manager Stephanie Saliba, said it would be business as usual.
“What we do and why we do it remains the same,” said Saliba. “We have a number of agencies working across our portfolio of brands and there will be no changes as a result of the company name change.”
Carat Melbourne currently heads up Mondelƒìz International’s media buying, having held the spot since 2010.
The name Mondelƒìz International was made up of two submissions taken from suggestions made by 1000 company employees. While “monde” comes from the Latin word for world, “delƒìz” is apparently a “fanciful expression of delicious”, according to the company.
