This role will see you managing a sales team who are representing 700+ locations nationwide; selling a print &/or digital option to advertisers on a local, regional or national basis – direct or via the media agency.

As the National Sales Manager, you will be responsible for creating and implementing the sales strategy and leading a national team of BDM’s to achieve their sales objectives.


Deliver an overall new business sales number for the business each month, and each financial year

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to maximise sales as well as improve market share
  • Actively lead a team of around 10+ BDM’s around Australia to achieve and exceed KPI’s
  • Mentor and support a National Sales Coordinator to optimize the New Business Sales function
  • Conduct weekly sales meetings and one-on-ones with each BDM to obtain forecasts and monitor individual and overall team performance
  • Oversee the development of the sales team through internal and external training
  • Maximise and leverage current client relationships to generate new business
  • Manage staff and sales expenditure budgets
  • Keep abreast of competitor products and activity
  • Attend industry conferences and events, networking with existing clients and prospective clients


  • Coaching the sales team – diagnosing areas for improving salespersons’ techniques; providing timely guidance, instruction, and feedback to help strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas and optimize sales success
  • Setting sales unit strategy – establishing a plan to achieve the unit’s sales objectives, taking into consideration overall business and sales goals, market opportunities, past sales results, and available resources; reviewing progress and adjusting the plan as needed
  • Sales opportunity analysis – understanding and utilising economic, financial, industry, and organizational data; accurately diagnosing customers’ business strengths, weaknesses, and key issues that can improve sales strategies
  • Building trusting relationships internally and externally; management, customers, agencies and staff


  • Practical results – performing work that results in concrete outputs or outcomes
  • Influencing others – using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to inspire and guide individuals; gaining acceptance of ideas or plans
  • Commission – working under a pay structure in which part of one’s income depends on measurable performance (e.g. commission sales)


  • Experience in selling and leading a media sales operation – a direct and agency facing team
  • A proven record and demonstrated passion for solution selling
  • Experience in developing and executing sales strategies that achieve tangible results
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead a sales team to achieve goals and KPIs, including developing and mentoring of team members
  • Ability to build strong relationships with teams and clients through confidence and trust
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated experience and skills in liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution with clients and colleagues
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in complex decision making, ensuring commercial outcomes
