Cricket Australia Unveils Ashes Fan Campaign #BeatEngland

With an Ashes summer rapidly approaching, Cricket Australia has put out a rallying cry to fans around the country to get behind our Australian women’s and men’s cricket teams under the banner #BeatEngland.

The #BeatEngland campaign is built upon a simple truth – nothing brings Australia together like the prospect of seeing our cricketers beat the old enemy on home soil, and this summer fans will have plenty of opportunities to show their passion and throw their support behind our women’s and men’s teams in the pursuit of victory.

The Australian women’s team will play England in the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes Series from 22 October, before the Australian men’s team play England in the Magellan Men’s Ashes Series, beginning on 23 November, followed by a One Day International series between Australia and England and a triangular T20INTL series between Australia, England, and New Zealand.

Cricket Australia general manager, events and leagues, Anthony Everard, said he hopes #BeatEngland will unite Australian fans around the country this Ashes summer.

“The cricketing rivalry between Australia and England is one of the oldest and fiercest in world sport, making an Ashes series an occasion charged with excitement and passion, not just from the players who take to the field but for fans as well. This campaign taps into this emotion and gives voice to the aspiration that every Australian has when our players take to the field against England. We want to encourage the cricket loving public around the country to use the BeatEngland hashtag to show their support for our teams and hopefully give them the edge to achieve victory this summer.”

The cricketing public can get involved in the #BeatEngland campaign at match – by wearing the slogan on their shirts, hats or banners, or by leading a chant to rival the best of the Barmy Army – or across social media by using the hashtag. People will have a chance to be winners just by showing their support this cricket season, with the fan who shares the best message using #BeatEngland set to win a trip for two to a UK Ashes Test match in 2019.

The fan-driven campaign will be supported by Cricket Australia across digital channels, through marketing materials, and at-match throughout the summer.
