Energy Safe Victoria Barbeque Fire Safety Campaign Launches With DPR&Co

The Victorian Government’s gas and electricity technical and safety regulator, Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), has launched a major public safety campaign to educate Victorians about the dangers of gas barbeque fires caused by unsafe gas bottle connections.

Across the summer months in Melbourne, there is a serious gas barbeque fire on average once per day, often accompanied by property loss and injury.

Energy Safe Victoria head of communications and marketing, Jonathan Granger, spoke of the importance of the campaign.

“The cost to Victorians in terms of injury and loss of property is simply too high,” he said.

“Barbecue fires are avoidable if people take simple steps to make sure their gas bottle is in good working order and properly connected.

“ESV needed an innovative and relatable concept to get this message in front of Victorians and I think our partnership with DPR has achieved that.”

DPR&Co c-founder and executive creative director Richard Ralphsmith said the agency was working to make positive change.

“We all want our families to be safe, so this campaign is particularly important. It shows the problem powerfully, and the solution simply.

“That’s the way to forge behavioural change.”

The campaign will run across TV, digital, radio and social in Victoria and launches this week.

The Energy Safe Victoria new client win comes hot on the heels of DPR&Co’s win at the AMI Awards, for its client Chisholm Institute, taking out the Victorian Award for “Education Campaign of the Year”.
