Nine tops local programming quota

The Nine Network has topped the list of Australian broadcasters showing the most locally generated content.

All national commercial networks exceed the 55% requirement set down by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, but Nine exceeded the quota, with 63% of its programs Australian made.

Network Ten licensees broadcast an average of nearly 60% of Australian content in the five mainland state capital cities and the Seven Network’s licensees averaged about 58% in each of those five markets.

The metropolitan networks also exceeded the annual quota of 20 hours of Australian documentaries. Both Seven and Nine achieved over 40 hours, while Ten increased their first release documentary programs to 28.7 hours.

All networks also met the requirements for drama and children’s programs in 2007.

Julie Flynn, CEO of Free TV Australia said: “The figures confirm the broadcasters’ commitment to producing the very best quality Australian programming.”
