Shopping centre giant Westfield has entered into a partnership with World Vision that will see it donate funds from its annual ‘Shop For Your School’program to the charity.
The program, which will channel the money into building schools in Zambia, will launch on April 26 at 32 centres nationally, offering more than $2m worth of educational technology prizes to participating Australian primary schools.
It operates on a points system, where shoppers tally points for their favourite school and at the end of the campaign the school with the most points per student wins.
Westfield will make a major donation to World Vision based on the total number of points earned nationally.
Apple is also partnering Westfield, offering iBook laptop computers to the winning schools. A range of other prizes include colour printers, plasma televisions, digital cameras and other technology.
Westfield general manager marketing, Michelle Vanzella, said the program had become a fixture on the primary school calendar.
“It’s great that local communities get right behind ‘Shop For Your School’, and this year we hope they’re motivated by the opportunity to build new schools in Zambia, in addition to helping school kids right here in Australia,” she said.
The association with World Vision means that shoppers who are not affiliated with any school can lend their support straight to the charity by using a key tag to collect points.
