APN News & Media is pushing ahead plans to develop the online offering of its community and regional mastheads, with the appointment of Hugh Martin as the Australian APN Online general manager.
Martin, who has most recently worked as news editor of news.com.au, will officially start his new role on June 18 and will be based at the company's regional publishing headquarters in Brisbane.
His arrival follows the appointment of his NZ equivalent, Alistair Matthewson, who joined at the end of last year. Both report to APN Online chief executive for Australia and NZ, Warren Lee.
Lee, who was appointed to the new role in May last year, said in 2006 it focused on relaunching the site for The New Zealand Herald, the country's largest daily, which he said has since been up for a number of international online awards. In Australia so far, APN has relaunched some of its classifieds sites and is gearing up to relaunch its regional publishing sites next month.
