 RESEARCH
Ansett in their hearts but not in actions
Maria Ligerakis

DESPITE reports of sluggish levels of passenger activity, a new survey has shown that nearly three quarters of Australians would consider flying with Ansett Mark II.

The Roy Morgan Research survey found that 54% of Australians continued to blame Air New Zealand for the collapse of Ansett, while 18% pointed the finger at the Federal Government and transport minister John Anderson for the fallout.

And the airline drama has left some people weary, with nearly a quarter (24%) of respondents saying they would not consider flying with Ansett Mark II, with 4% undecided.

Of those that would consider flying with Ansett Mark II, 56% said they would choose the airline over both Qantas and Virgin Blue if similar ticket prices were offered.

The telephone survey involved 634 Australians aged 14 years and over and the findings come hot on the heels of Ansett resuming its Sydney-Melbourne services and flights to Perth set to resume within days.

The airline has also launched patriotic ads proclaiming “Ansett is flying for Australia” and “Ansett’s Back”.
