Ikon names Myer account chief
Oliver Milman

Ikon Communications has appointed Liz Webster, former director of business development at The Age, to head up its newly-won Myer business.

As reported by B&T Today yesterday, Webster departed The Age on Friday. She has already started at Ikon’s fledgling Melbourne operation.

Webster, who spent more than 20 years at The Age, hasn’t worked agency-side previously but is familiar with Myer through her duties at the Fairfax Media newspaper.

As display advertising director and, most recently, director of business development at The Age, Webster worked closely with Myer to run various advertising campaigns.

She will oversee the Myer media business for Ikon, which won the $59m account yesterday following a four-month review process.

Ben Willee, managing director of Ikon Melbourne, told B&T Today: “Liz is a very experienced media practitioner and she has a great understanding of the Myer business.

“She is enormously respected and we are delighted to have her on board.”

Willee said that Ikon has seconded staff from its Sydney office to work on the Myer business, with further external hires expected in the near future.
