Consumers head online for healthiest deal

Visits to online health insurance web sites surged last year as consumers became increasingly proactive in their mission to get the best deal, according to online research service Hitwise.

Hitwise data shows that visits to the online health insurance category grew by more than 90% between January 2004 and January 2005.

The category has continued to be one of the key areas of interest for consumers accounting for 4.87% of all Australian internet use during the week ending April 4.

The new range of sites that allow people to compare the array of different offers by various health insurance companies are proving the most popular sources of information.

Iselect, where users can compare, select and buy health insurance from a range of health funds, was the top ranking health insurance web site during the week ending March 5 accounting for almost a quarter of the market share for the category.
