 MEDIA EYE
Seven uses digital for cricket

Some cricket fans will be spoiled for detail when it comes to coverage of the Australian team’s tour of England.

Seven Network has announced plans to have a dedicated digital television channel to complement its coverage beginning June 14. Seven has the rights to the coverage of the one-day international matches while SBS is broadcasting tests.

One of Seven’s digital channels—Channel 71—will be dedicated to providing match highlights, a cricket quiz, live statistics and a virtual scoreboard that calculates possible outcomes of the game.

Each of the eleven matches to be broadcast by Seven will have a synchronous channel providing additional profiles on players, and a “probability” calculator—a special computer program that predicts different match outcomes from a database of all one day international matches ever played.

From ground conditions to past player performances and individual match-ups, it can predict how the game will unfold, and viewers will be able to test their skills on Seven Digital’s Channel 71 for the latest updates as they happen.
