Network Ten has signed an agreement with Foxtel for its signal to be rebroadcast on the pay TV digital platform, leaving just the Seven Network as the only major broadcaster not present on Foxtel.
Ten’s digital signal will be available to Foxtel satellite subscribers in Brisbane, Melbourne and Geelong, Sydney and the NSW central coast for the first time, with Foxtel cable customers having access to the digital signal in Adelaide, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
The target date for the satellite and cable retransmissions is September.
Ten’s high definition service will also be retransmitted on cable when Foxtel launches its own HD service planed for next year.
Ten’s schedule and programme details will be made available on Foxtel’s electronic programme guide, and will also be available to subscribers of Foxtel’s iQ personal digital recorders.
Grant Blackley, Ten’s CEO said: “Ten’s digital media strategy hinges on delivering our content by multiple means across all platforms as widely as possible.
"With this agreement, viewers will find it easier than ever to access Ten regardless of how they choose to receive their television services.”
Kim Williams, CEO at Foxtel added: “This is a major advance for consumers and digital television.”
Foxtel currently has retransmissions agreements with the ABC, SBS and Nine Network. Ten’s decision to join now means that Seven is the only major national broadcaster not on Foxtel.
A spokesperson from Seven was unavailable for comment when contacted by B&T.
