Queensland Newspapers, a division of News Limited, has made 20 of its production staff redundant in the past week, and more expected across editorial and ad sales.
Managing director of Queensland Newspapers Jerry Harris said no staff cuts had been made in the advertising or editorial divisions yet, but staff cuts would be done on a “project by project” basis.
The cuts come as News Limited carries out across the board reviews of its Australian operations.
“The changes in place were the result of a specific department review,” said Harris.
Fifteen of the 20 staff were from the company’s Murrarie print plant, which has recently installed new technologies, while the other five were a result a merger of the production divisions of Queensland Newspapers and Quest Newspapers.
Yesterday B&T Today revealed that News Magazines, another division of News Limited, had made about nine redundancies across its men’s specialist division.
Earlier this month James Murdoch, who oversees News International as News Corporation chairman and chief executive Europe and Asia told staff there would be imminent cuts at British News Limited papers.
