Today Network duo Hamish and Andy have been crowned as best on air team at this year’s Australian Commercial Radio Awards, with the comedy pairings drive time show claiming a further three gongs.
The pairing also won for best networked program and best station promotion, while producer Sam Cavanagh won best on-air team producer.
The winners were announced at an awards dinner held on the Gold Coast on Saturday as part of the Commercial Radio Australia conference.
Neil Mitchell from 3AW Melbourne (Fairfax Radio Network) won best talk presenter for the third year, while Ray Hadley from 2GB Sydney (Macquarie Radio Network) won best sports presenter.
The awards cover all metropolitan, provincial and country commercial radio stations with winners for each of these three areas competing in 31 categories.
Macquarie Southern Cross Media won the most awards with 22 in all, while Austereo followed with 15 and Fairfax Radio Network and DMG came away with seven apiece.
Australian Idol judge Ian “Dicko” Dickson won best newcomer for a metropolitan area on Vega Melbourne (DMG) while Mike Fitzpatrick from Triple M Melbourne (Austereo) won best music personality in a metropolitan area.
Nova 106.9 Brisbane (DMG) won the metropolitan award for best station produced. While best sales promotion metropolitan was won by 2Day FM Sydney (Austereo) for their Unilever ‘Win a Desperate Housewife House’ competition.
Pakistan cricketing legend and politician Imran Khan, and reality TV producer and judge of the US version of So You Think You can Dance, Nigel Lythgoe, were special guests at the awards.
