Sensis sets sights on sock puppet ‘icon’ Oliver milman
Sensis has said it wants to make its talking sock puppet, used in its 1234 marketing campaign, “an Australian advertising icon” ahead of the latest execution in the series.
The new TVC, set to air on Sunday, shows the theatrically-voiced sock puppet bursting out of an Esky to tell a startled family about the benefits of using the 1234 phone information service.
The sock puppet tells the family, who are travelling in a car, how to reach the nearest doctor to treat their chicken pox-infected child. However, the sock puppet then becomes inflected himself and ends up in hospital.
Sensis is hoping the ad, created by DDB Melbourne, will further heighten the profile of the sock puppet and 1234, especially to families. The unnamed sock puppet has been used in a previous TVC, which showed him in a laundrette.
“The ads have tracked very well and our business results have exceeded our expectations since we used him (the sock puppet),” Nick Winbanks, marketing manager of Sensis Interactive told B&T.
“He has the potential for a long run, we might find that he’s an Australian icon in 15 years, but we judge each ad on its merit.”
