Fat cats make a Friend

Pet nutrition company Hill’s Nutrition has appointed direct marketing agency Friend to work on its PetFit program following a competitive pitch.

PetFit is an online weight loss program that is offered by vets in conjunction with the Hill’s Prescription Diet range of foods for cats and dogs.

Friend will be developing both consumer and trade activity to encourage pet owners to register their pets and participate in the program.

Hill’s Prescription Diet brand manager Susana Lukic said: “There is a great opportunity to build PetFit into the number one weight loss program for pets. Friend demonstrated a great understanding of the best way to get pet owners to enrol their pets and how we should get the vets and their nursing staff to support the program.”

Friend managing partner Tony Rambaut said: “We are going to build strong relationships with both the vet clinics and pet owners. Most pet owners don’t fully appreciate the relationship between weight and health issues in pets, so there will be a heavy focus on education as well as encouraging them to sign-up and participate.”

The new program will launch in early 2010.
