Coca-Cola reigns but Google is fastest growing brand

Coca Cola, Microsoft and IBM may still be the top global brands, but Google, Starbucks and eBay are hot on their heels as the fastest growing brands in the world.

According to this year’s Top 100 Global Brands report by Interbrand and BusinessWeek, Coca-Cola has maintained its position as the number one ranked brand in the world with a brand value of US$67bn.

Microsoft follows at US$56.9bn, with IBM (US$56.2bn), GE (US$48.9bn) and Intel (US$32.3bn) rounding out the top five brands – a list that remains unchanged from last year.

However, despite their top dog status Coca-Cola’s 2006 brand value slipped 1% on last year’s survey, Microsoft’s value fell 5% and Intel shed 9%, while IBM and GE gained 5% and 4% respectively.

The fastest growing brand in 2006 was Google, which this year ranked 24.

In only its second year on the Interbrand global list, the uber search engine and media group increased its brand value by 46% since the 2005 survey.

The second fastest growing brand was Starbucks (ranked 91) at US$3.1bn, up 20% on last year; while eBay (ranked 47) and Motorola (ranked 69) each grew their brand values by 18% to US$6.8bn and US$4.6bn respectively.

More than half (51%) of the top 100 brands are from the US.

No Australian brands were named on the list.
