Microsoft launched its new home entertainment console the Xbox 360 around the world today but is still keeping details of its roll out in Australia under wraps.
The new product was launched globally via an MTV special party hosted by actor Elijah Wood and beamed around the world, including Australia.
A Microsoft spokesman in Australia said the company was not yet commenting on when the product would be available here or on its marketing plans.
Xbox 360 is being positioned as a new era in home entertainment that is “set to deliver mind-blowing gaming experiences but will now also offer a complete, seamless digital entertainment experience’ as well as features such as real time video and voice chat.
The new console allows users to be able to play games in never before seen ‘high definition’ vision as well as connect with other entertainment devices such as the iPods, digital cameras and PCs.
Microsoft Home and Entertainment division Australia and New Zealand regional director David McLean said the product would change the way people “experience and interact with entertainment in the home”.
“We’re certain Xbox 360 owners will love the experience of chatting with friends online and actually seeing them at the same time,” McLean said.
“Imagine easily switching from playing the latest game, to a quick video chat with your best friend, before browsing through your family photos on your TV screen with your mum. Xbox 360 really is the missing link in your home.”
