Myer marketer quits during pitch

Myer’s head of marketing, public relations and events, Paul Bonnici, has resigned without a job to go to, in the midst of a creative account review at the retail giant.

Bonnici formally resigned from the position yesterday morning and will be, “taking time off over the summer to spend it with my boys” he said.

Myer is in the midst of a creative account pitch believed to involve M&C Saatchi, Grey and incumbent Badjar Ogilvy. It’s uncertain whether the changes in the marketing department will have any affect on the process.

In an email to staff, CEO Bernie Brookes said: “Paul will not be replaced and Adam Stapleton will maintain his current role reporting through to myself. His title will be general manager marketing.”

In addition, pr and corporate affairs executive Mitch Catlin will take up the responsibility for events as well as public relations, all communications including internal communication and investor relations, as general manager communications, PR and events, reporting directly to Brookes.

The announcement comes after a string of redundancies within the marketing department.

Brookes asked staff to “have some patience with the marketing team” as they reposition their structure and priorities over the next couple of weeks.
