TWO closely cropped international football stars—David Beckham and George Gregan—have signed up to spruik Gillette’s premium grooming products.
Beckham has signed up for three years in a deal said to be worth more than any of his other endorsements, including those for Adidas and Vodafone.
His debut commercial will air in Europe in June, with the theme ‘The Feeling of Gillette’.
Gillette president, blades and razors, Peter Hoffman, was undeterred in signing Beckham following allegations the soccer star had extramarital affairs, saying Beckham embodied the “best a man can be” positioning of the brand.
“He is an established international icon and one of the world’s best and most recognisable sports figures. We intend to globally market him as Gillette’s stylish, well-groomed man.”
Locally, Wallabys’ captain George Gregan, who has been the Australian face of the brand since the Rugby World Cup, has signed on for another year.
Gillette Australia business manager—grooming Cameron Bruce said Gregan’s qualities made him a logical choice for the brand.
“We are very happy that George has decided to remain the face of Gillette. His immaculate grooming, professionalism and leadership qualities align perfectly with the brand values of Gillette.”
