Lotteries expand reach through supermarkets

UK: National Lottery operator Camelot is launching a branded card that will enable shoppers to pay for lottery tickets at checkouts in thousands of retailers nationwide.

Part of the National Lottery Fast Pay plan, the card will initially be rolled out to more than 1,000 Tesco stores by the end of the year.

Other supermarkets, including Sainsbury's and Asda, are in talks with Camelot about adopting the system, which is designed to make playing its portfolio of games easier.

Players fill out a draw slip in the normal way. It is read by a lottery terminal and players are given a Fast Pay card containing their selection in a plastic wallet, which can be used at the checkout. Players can only pay at Lottery terminals at present.
