Austereo uses SMS to give listeners more
Danielle Veldre

AUSTEREO’s Today radio network is launching an SMS initiative that lets listeners get more information about the songs they like on the various stations.

Figjam will be available to Fox listeners in Melbourne and 2Day FM listeners in Sydney and allows them to SMS the word “figjam” to a number and then receive a return message with the name of the song currently playing, the artist as well as details of the previous song.

Communicator founder Damon Gorrie has been working with Austereo on the project for three years.

“We developed this idea in the early stages of SMS in Australia before it became a phenomenon and we decided that the market wasn’t mature enough for the application,” Gorrie said.

“The market has increased rapidly in the past six months and the timing is now right.”
