 PAY TV
Foxtel takes over control of Arena

The management of pay TV channel Arena has been transferred from XYZ Networks to Foxtel in a bid to leverage Foxtel’s relationships with Hollywood studios.

From October 1 this year Arena will be managed by Foxtel Owned & Operated Group and away from XYZ, which is a joint venture between Foxtel and Austar.

Brian Walsh, executive director of television and marketing at Foxtel said: “Arena will evolve and develop with programming tailor made for its core audience of 25 to 39 females. It is a channel with great heritage and room to grow and I feel confident, that as a part of our team, Arena will achieve outstanding results for its shareholders.

“The general entertainment sector is one of the most intensely competitive in the business. Foxtel is well placed to manage an expanded portfolio of general entertainment channels, securing quality content and offering viewers a broader variety of programs across the platform.”

Arena was launched in 1995 and its programmes include award winning shows such as Entourage and Project Runway.

Foxtel owns and operates a variety to channels including Fox8, Fox Classics, Bio, and W.

XYZ owns, operates or distributes ten channels including the LifeStyle Channel, Channel [V] and Max.
