Ian “Dicko” Dickson has been brought in to host the Seven Network’s second instalment of its My Restaurant Rules reality TV program next year, in a push to bring a new “edge” to the show.
Dickson, who recently defected from the Ten Network said that in spite of his lack of hospitality experience, he plans to be the “eyes, ears and tastebuds of the viewers”.
Seven corporate development director Simon Francis said Dickson was chosen for his “extraordinary talent”.
“He connects with audiences and will connect with our aspiring restaurateurs. He’ll bring an edge to [the show],” Francis said.
Seven is yet to announce the team of food and restaurant experts who will join Dickson to evaluate the performances and follow the journey of the five couples competing in their home states.
“Any program that peaks at 1.75 million for its final episode and delivers in all key advertiser demographics is by any definition a hit and we believe it will build in series two,” Francis said.
“There will be more twists and turns and we will be focusing on the people and their restaurants from early in the series. It’s about people fulfilling their dream and the viewers deciding and that will be the focus—it’s not a properly constructed program.”
