Sony Ericsson has appointed the company’s former head of sales in the UK and Ireland, Steve Wilson, as the new managing director for the Oceania region.
Wilson, who immediately took over responsibility for Australia and New Zealand from acting MD Takeo Kobayashi, was promoted from within the organisation.
He has been credited with helping to grow Sony Ericsson’s market share in the UK from number five to the number one position in his two and half years in the role.
He has also previously worked with Panasonic, where he held positions in corporate strategy, sales and marketing and account management.
Wilson said the company would continue to advance its Cyber-Shot and Walkman range with a particular focus on new models. He said Sony Ericsson would also build its range of emotive handsets.
And following on from its participation in the new Bond film Casino Royale and sponsorship of Robbie William’s Australian tour the company would continue to work on value-add strategies with Sony sister companies and other partners, Wilson said.
