Leisel Jones signs on as Hyundai envoy Olivia Collings
Following the recruitment of actors Georgie Parker and Underbelly star Rodger Corser, Hyundai has added swimming sportstar Leisel Jones as its “green” ambassador.
The Olympic swimmer said she was drawn to Hyundai’s i30 CRDi because of its environmental credentials. The vehicle was named 2008 Eco-car of the Year at the 2008 Transport Awards in Melbourne and 2007 Carsguide Green Car of the Year.
“Leisel is very green conscious and was doing research into the green car market when we started talking about this relationship,” said Tiffanny Junee, manager of corporate communications and media at Hyundai.
“We consider our ambassadors to be people who have like minded ideas about life and are people suited to our brands values.”
While Parker and Corser have both appeared in TVCs for the brand as well as in public relations campaigns, Jones has not yet been featured in an ad. However, Junee said it was a possibility in the future. Corser starred in a ad for Hyundai’s ESP stability control, while Parker, who drives a Santa Fe, was involved in the Hyundai safety campaign.
Meanwhile, Hyundai has agreed to continue supporting the national A-League soccer competition as naming rights sponsor for another four years, along with supporting the Football Federation Australia and Carlton Football Club.
Hyundai was an original partner of the A-League when it was launched in 2005.
Earlier this year Hyundai moved its $40m media account to Initiative and last year appointed WPP’s IdeaWorks for its retail business advertising from incumbent Singleton Ogilvy & Mather, which retains the brand advertising account.
