Advertising network Adknowledge has launched an ad platform that allows advertisers to target consumers on social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo, using streaming video and visuals.
The ads that are streamed through the “Social TV” platform require users to actively click onto the ads to view them and are easy for consumers to pass onto friends.
The ad network said it is targeting the new product to advertisers looking to extend their reach beyond traditional television ads across the major social networks.
“Research from Nielsen shows that the advertising impact of the internet can add 15 points of lift above TV in terms of brand recall and 187 points of lift in message recall,” said Markus von der Luehe, managing director of Adknowledge Australia
Early research conducted on the success of Social TV campaigns has revealed that “viral hits”, those generated through recommendations or newsfeeds, accounted for an average of 15% to 30% of overall hits, with click through rates reaching 85%.
