Department store David Jones is the latest retailer to offer Seven Media Group’s digital recorder TiVo, in the hope of a sales drive before Christmas.
From November 10 the national chain will sell the personal video recorder (PVR) for the set price of $699.
When the device first launched in July many in the industry claimed it would fail to make an impact on the subscription television industry and with a price tag of $699 was out of reach for many Australians.
While Seven Media Group and main retailer Harvey Norman are refusing to release sales data, Seven Media has claimed TiVo has doubled the sales of PVRs in Australia since its launch.
Just last month the device was signed up by discount electronic store JB Hi-Fi and Clive Anthony stores, as well as being available at Woolworths retail chains Dick Smith Electronics and Dick Smith Powerhouse stores, after being exclusively sold by Harvey Norman and Domayne stores for the first six weeks.
Robbee Minicola, CEO of Seven subsidiary Hybrid Television Services, the Australian licensee of TiVo products in Australia and New Zealand, said the addition of David Jones as a retailer was a significant milestone for the device in the lead up to Christmas.
“David Jones customers value the convenience of a one shop solution for all their Christmas purchases and now TiVo can be on their gift list,” Minicola said. “Between the purchase convenience for consumers, the David Jones premium brand and our unique product positioning as a media device, not a PVR, we are well on track to deliver our national footprint."
Gary Neville, David Jones general manager home entertainment and home furnishing said TiVo had achieved “outstanding” awareness in Australia in a short time.
“The product's unique offering and additional capabilities as a media device ensures it is well placed with our other premium home entertainment products. Our product range is selected in accordance with what is most salient to our customers.”
