The Optimistic, The Realistic And The Unusual New Year’s Resolution Ads For 2016

In no surprise to anyone, it’s the fitness freaks folk and health-conscious brands that dominate the trend of New Year’s Resolution advertising.

Regardless, we’ve hunted down some of the brands who are capitalising on the idea of people trying to better themselves for the first two weeks of January in their latest ad campaigns.

The optimistic

Despite not being in this particularly cheerful category ourselves, B&T still admires the energy brands put into inspiring people to live bigger and better in the New Year, including these guys:

Virgin Active

The gym chain has launched a series of emojis to help those working out crank things up a notch from the typical gym selfie.

The gym brand, along with Swift Media, has created 33 emojis depicting exercises such as squats, burpees and different classes available at the gym chain.650-4-20160104042751270

Dryathlon

The campaign run by Cancer Research UK challenges people to not drink *gasps* for an entire month and in turn, raise some dollars for a bloody good cause.

This year, the campaign created by advertising agency Karmarama will appear across TV, radio, digital and social media, and reminds people you can still have fun sober.

MaxiNutrition

The protein-led nutrition company has launched its 2016 campaign entitled ‘It’s Not For Everybody’, acknowledging that its products are a choice for those who know there is no substitute for hard work and dedication.

The realistic

Because the New Year isn’t all about beating your 2015 PB and throwing away all your boxes of mac n’ cheese.

Booking.com

The travel site has introduced its ‘Resolution Translator’ for 2016, an online and mobile app that “translates” your resolutions. Simply type in what you want to do in 2016, and the tool suggests a suitable break.

Thomas Cook

Another travel company that knows sometimes our resolution is just to be lazy, which is the exact message in one of its new 30-second TV adverts.

Be Lazy and Go Crazy debuted on Boxing Day and focus on people being “whatever they want to be” while on holiday with Thomas Cook.

The Unusual

Kwik Fit

Yes, this is still a fitness one, and yes, we have literally run out of ads that are anything but gyms, travel sites or sober ventures, but the ad are certainly a more fun approach to getting fit in 2016.

Kwik Fit has introduced a free 30-minute fitness class to help customers shift their Christmas ‘spare tyre’ with the help of spare tyres, and uses real Kwik Fit technicians (ie fat mechanics) working alongside personal trainer Mikah Simpson in a fitness routine using only car tyres.

Equinox

We might have covered this yesterday, but it’s still a favourite for the slightly odd pile of New Year’s resolution campaigns.

Encouraging you to ‘Commit to Something’, whether it be multiple sexual partners or a bucketload of cash, the fitness club has stretched its idea very wide this new year.
