Super Bowl 2017: Nearly A Quarter Of The Air Time Was Ads

Do you avoid the Super Bowl because it takes almost a day to watch? Well, according to new data released today, Monday’s game between the Patriots and the Falcons contained nearly an hour of ads or 23 per cent of the game’s three hours and 47 minute broadcast.

The data was compiled by Kantar Media and found Super Bowl 2017 had 51 minutes and 40 seconds of ads and had the most paid ads of any Super Bowl in history.

It was even better news for broadcaster Fox when the game went into overtime and added another $US20 million in ad revenues.

This year’s biggest advertiser was beer brand Budweiser who aired three-and-a-half minutes of ads and promoted four of its brands. Check out it’s Super Bowl ad below:

The game itself was the second most watched Super Bowl in history with 13.7million viewers across America and was the first time a game had gone into extra time.

According to Kantar, the game attracted 12 new brands who had never advertised at a Super Bowl before, however, lost 40 per cent of advertisers who aired spots in 2016. Maybe the $US5 million for 30 seconds of air time had something to do with it.
