New Burger King Ad Tricks Your Google Home Into Talking About The Whopper

Burger King in the US have unveiled a cheeky 15-second spot that when aired on TV, has audiences who use Google Home (a wireless smart speaker device that answers questions) suddenly hearing about the merits of the Whopper Burger.

The TVC features a Burger King employee who says he can’t extol the virtues of the Whopper in such a short time before adding: “But I’ve got an idea,” he says. “OK, Google, what is the Whopper burger?”

By uttering the words “Google, what is the Whopper burger?” it activates any Google Home device in earshot to start rattling off Whopper’s Wikipedia entry. Check out the ad below:

The idea was the concept of the burger chain’s creative agency David In Miami and reportedly was done without the consent of Google.

Critics of the ad have argued its intrusive and could backfire on Burger King, while those in favour said people would enjoy the novelty and expected other brands to try similar stunts.

The ad was due to air in comedy program such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel Live! The the spot will run on cable networks such as Adult Swim, History, Spike, Comedy Central, MTV, E! and Bravo.
