Macca’s In Strife After McCafe Ad Shows Gay Son ‘Coming Out’ To Father

McDonald’s in Taiwan has come up with a novel way to promote its McCafe range with an ad that features a son coming out to his father. And, as you may expect, it’s caused a stir from anti-gay religious groups.

The emotive ad, posted to the burger chains’ Facebook page, shows the son scrawl “I like boys” on his coffee cup. Initially, the father looks rather pissed at the news and withdraws from the table but returns and modifies his son’s initial script to read: “I accept that you like boys”.

However, not everybody’s happy with a Big Mac and a big side order of homosexuality. The secretary general of the Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family, Chang Shou-yi, has labeled the ad an affront to family values and called for a boycott of McDonald’s restaurants.

In a statement, Shou-yi said the ad was “polluting” young minds. “Because McDonald’s is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behaviour… The Alliance “rebukes and boycotts all enterprises that are polluting the next generation.”

Despite Shou-yi’s hate comments to Macca’s Facebook page and the clip itself have generally been positive.
