APN Outdoor Announces Invictus Games Sydney 2018

Prince Harry today announced that the 2018 Invictus Games have been awarded to Sydney, and will be held from the 18th through the 29th October 2018 with over 500 military competitors from 17 nations. Sydney follows fellow host cities London (2014) and Orlando (2016), with Toronto to come in 2017.

When looking to announce that Sydney had won the bid, the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 team identified APN Outdoor as the perfect media supplier to deliver the news Australia wide, within moments and with the impact and scale, appropriate for such an event.

APN Outdoor’s XTrackTV was able to bring this announcement to life, broadcasting a clip featuring Prince Harry, Kylie Minogue and other Ambassadors, including Wallabies captain Stephen Moore, within the rail environment across 88 screens within moments of the news being announced.

The Outdoor leaders’ Elite Screens were also able to share a twitter feed with the news direct from Kensington Palace across Australia in near real-time, as well as some key facts and insights into the Games themselves.

Founded by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, and the families that play such an important supporting role.

Lieutenant General Peter Leahy AC, Chair of Invictus Games Sydney 2018 commented “Announcing Sydney as the host city was extremely exciting news that we wanted a way to share this with the people of Australia immediately. Having seen what APN Outdoor were able to execute in the lead up to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, we were very pleased to work with the Outdoor leaders in bringing our own announcement to life. The digital assets allowed us to control the release time and share specific messages in specific markets using our social and video assets.”

Richard Herring, CEO, APN Outdoor also commented “This announcement marks the first time that APN Outdoor have been used as the lead media to take a message of this magnitude to Australians all across the country. As far as I know this is also the first time we’ve had royalty gracing our screens in Prince Harry, and with a pop princess like Kylie joining him, we are sure this will get noticed! The Invictus Games is such a wonderful event and we are so pleased to welcome the event to Sydney and use our Elite Screens and XtrackTV to share the news with the general public.”

The 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney will mark the first time the event has come to the region and will be a chance for Sydney to embrace the values that this wonderful event stands for.
