Bic Dealt Some Serious Blows After Posting “Sexist” Ad To Celebrate Women’s Day

Pen company Bic is in the midst of a social media hurricane after posting an ad to its Facebook page telling women to “look like a woman, think like a man”.

The ad from the South African arm of the brand was intended to celebrate Women’s Day in South Africa, but boy, did that backfire.

The post featured an image of a woman with her arms crossed with the words: “Look like a girl, act like a lady, think like a man, work like a boss!”

The post has been deleted from Facebook, however Twitter user Rupert Myers took a screenshot to share with the world.

Bic has taken to Facebook to issue an apology.

In other sexist news this morning, Target in the US has come under fire for T-shirts with the words ‘bride’, ‘Mrs’ and ‘trophy’ emblazoned upon the front.

The retail store has been accused of sexism and perpetuating rape culture, with a change.org petition already created to boycott the store.

Target issued a statement about how it never meant to offend, but apparently had quite good feedback from customers about the garments.
