Following months of swirling innuendo, uncertainty and speculation regarding the future of the AMY Awards, B&T can now reveal that its future has been guaranteed by its new owner the Association of Data-driven Marketing and Advertising (ADMA).
However the assets of AIMIA, which was established in 1992, were subsequently purchased by ADMA. At the time ADMA CEO Jodie Sangster said that the Amy Awards would proceed for 2016, but not on the original date of 31 March.
The Amy Awards will now be held 15 July at the Ivy Ballroom and is almost certainly going to be a sell out event. ADMA has also confirmed to B&T that the awards will go ahead in 2017 and into the foreseeable future citing incredibly strong industry support for what amounts to one of the longest running Internet marketing awards in Australia.
“There are apparently rumours that this will be the last AMY Awards – this could not be further from the truth. We’ve been blown away by support for the Awards this year and are really excited about the event on July 15th.
“This has been a long time coming as the event had to be delayed to due to the hiatus in the judging process during the acquisition period. However, they will go back to their regular timing in March/April next year. The AMY’s continue to have an important role in the Awards landscape that will continue – our plan is to make 2017 bigger and better than ever,” Sangster said.
Sources close to ADMA have told B&T that they believe other industry awards organisers are running a deliberate campaign of disinformation to damage the commercial viability of the Amy Awards.
