A famous ballerina, Sydney Dance Company and Sydney-based ad agency The Works have joined together to help a young dancer achieve her professional dreams.
Nineteen-year-old Holly Doyle from Miranda in Sydney’s south has been identified as a “unique talent”, however without financial support her career in contemporary dance is in jeopardy.
The Sydney Dance Company has launched its inaugural scholarship program A Year of the Wharf in a new campaign created by The Works.
The program will see one young dancer given a chance to rehearse, perform and tour with the contemporary dance company.
As a result, former principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, Darcey Bussell, has thrown her support behind Doyle.
Bussell will front the ad campaign calling for donations to help Bussell secure the $100,000 funds she needs for the scholarship.
The video message will be delivered on tablet devices to selected corporate sponsors, former benefactors and potential Sydney Dance Company donors.
Douglas Nicol, creative partner and director at The Works, said: “We were able to enlist Darcey Bussell, one of the world’s most recognised ballerinas, to share her experience of starting out and the similarities with Holly’s circumstances were striking. This is the first stage of a two phase campaign that we hope will keep Holly dancing for many years to come.”
Sydney Dance Company executive director Anne Dunn added: “It is fantastic to have the support of The Works in creating support for this initiative. It has been an inspirational experience to work with them on the development of such an innovative campaign, one that could give a young Australian dancer the opportunity of a lifetime.”
