Workout soundtracks by rebel beats

Sports retailer rebel has created a music companion app, rebel beats, it says will act “like a personal trainer” and help drive your workout.

The app, created in partnership with MCM Media, tailors music for different types of workouts and different lengths using 40 curated playlists to match a workout’s intensity.

The playlists will change throughout the year to match the season, sporting seasons and rebel events.

To support the launch rebel beats will be showcased with video pre-rolls, radio and digital ads running across the MCM Media network.

The app is available across all mobile platforms from this week.

Jonathan Hopkins, MCM Media strategy director, said: “Working with rebel, we realised the mobile app exercise market predominantly focused on runners interested in performance-led metrics. There was a clear opportunity for a curated music-led app catering for the active mainstream market.”

“We unearthed that for most people selecting and downloading exercise music is inconvenient. Our iPods and phones are filled with music for all moods, music we love to listen to, but not music to exercise to. People just don’t have the time or interest to seek out exercise music, so we curated it for them.”
